Grampian GPSTs: New Employment Model

We hope you are continuing to enjoy and make progress with your training in Scotland. We want to share with you exicting new developments being implemented in the Grampian programme with a view to eventual roll out across Scotland.

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) already employs General Practice Specialty Trainees (GPSTs) when they are in placement in General Practice and has well established policies and procedures in place within this model. The next step is for NES to employ GPSTs when they are in hospital placements as part of the GPST programme. This is being implemented incrementally, NHS Grampian is an early implementer of this model from August 2017. Further information will be shared with all those affected.

It is anticipated that GPSTs will benefit from a reduction in the number of employers encountered during training and will not require to complete several onboarding processes during the Specialty training programme.

Even if you are out with the Grampian programme, we would welcome any feedback you may be able to provide that will inform the development of these arrangements and the support available to NES GPST employees. please email any suggestions to marked in the subject field as EMPLOYMENT SUGGESTIONS

We are developing this model in partnership with the other Scottish Health Boards, the BMA and trainee representatives with a view to rolling this model out across other specialties. In the meantime, please look out for updates to this page. You may also find it helpful to peruse other parts of this extranet site for employment information.
